TORONTO MAPLE LEAFS VS WASHINGTON CAPITALS FREE NHL PICK ANALYSIS
The Maple leafs have been slumping recently with only three wins in their last ten. The leafs under achieving youth of late forwards William Nylander and Austin Matthews need a big game before the break to improve morale. As the Leafs season rolls into the All-star break Mitch Marner and newly acquired John Tavares continue to pull the weight for the leafs with Marner accumulating 61 points this season and Tavares lighting the lamp 30 times.
The Capitals are on the tail end of back to back games losing in overtime to the San Jose Sharks on the first leg. Alex Ovechkin continued his 2018-2019 goal scoring rampage by netting a hat trick in a 7-6 loss to the absolute wagon that is the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday. Don’t expect much out of Ovechkin tonight after his hat trick he will have “crossed the sauces” and enjoyed some of Russia’s finest vodka on the flight to Toronto in celebration of his hat trick performance in the States capital.
The Leafs netminder Fredrick Anderson’s coming off a less than stellar performance in Toronto against the Coyotes. Anderson gave up a few softies in a 4-2 loss to the Arizona Coyotes at home. The Capitals will give rookie goaltender Pheonix Copley the nod tonight while Holtby will sit on the bench licking his wounds from the 7 goal shellacking he received last night at the hands of Evander Kane and the San Jose Sharks. Copley has a modest 10-5-3 record this season with a 2.98 GAA.
With Ovi half in the bag for puck drop and Caps rookie goalie Phoenix Copley starting his first game in the hockey mecca that is Toronto we expect his nerves to get the best of him and Ovi to be a non-factor in this one.
