Week 7 NFL Predictions: October 21, 2018
PATRIOTS vs BEARS
Pick: PATRIOTS -1.5 -110
The Patriots seemed to have found their stride this season. They will take on the Bears at Soldier Field. The Pats are coming off a huge win at home against the formerly undefeated Kansas City Chiefs and I expect them to continue their momentum. They are loaded with weapons on offense and every week the new players they have brought in this year (Josh Gordon, Sony Michel etc.) are looking more comfortable. The Bears are led by star linebacker Khalil Mack but he is dealing with an injury that will affect him on Sunday. Without Mack at 100% the Bears will have a tough time stopping Tom Brady. The Patriots are fighting the Dolphins for top spot in the AFC East and know this win will be crucial.
LIONS vs DOLPHINS
Pick: UNDER 46.5 POINTS -110
The Detroit Lions and Dolphins will square off in an interesting game on Sunday in a game where points could be hard to come by. The Dolphins know they will need to rely on the run game in this one. The Lions have the 7th ranked pass defense in the NFL and the Dolphins have Osweiller under centre in this one. Their key to winning this game will be with their rushing attack and keeping Matt Stafford off the field by controlling the clock. I do see the Lions being able to move the ball against this Dolphins defense that has not looked great this season but I think the Dolphins clock controlling style of play will keep them off the field long enough not to hit this total. Take the under.
VIKINGS vs JETS
Pick: VIKINGS -3.5 -110
The Vikings come into Met Life Stadium to take on the Jets in a game that could be a blow out. The Vikings have a huge edge under centre. Kirk Cousins has been dominant since coming to Minnesota. He is fifth in the league in passing yards with 12 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions. The Jets have rookie Sam Darnold who has the 27th best passer rating in the NFL. Kirk Cousins could have a field day in this one as the Jets have just the 22nd ranked pass defense in the NFL. The Jets have been using the run game a lot this year as they rank 7th in the league in rushing yards per game but they should have trouble doing this today against a Vikings defense that ranks 9th in rushing yards allowed. The Vikings counter the Jets style of play very well and overall are just a better team. Expect them to win this game and cover the points.
BROWNS vs BUCCANEERS
Pick: BROWNS +3.5 -110
The Bucs will host the Browns in this matchup and I believe the underdog Browns will win this game. They are a good kicker away from being a 5-2 football team and they have play makers on both sides of the ball and have looked like a solid football team this year. The Bucs are 2-3 this year and it appears they have run out of Fitzmagic. They have lost their last 3 games and have not looked good giving up over 30 points in each of those losses. Jamies Winston has lost 10 of his last 11 starts and I believe this is a very good spot for the Browns to bounce back after being routed by the Chargers last week. The Browns are the better team here. They should cover the points and win this game.
SAINTS vs RAVENS
Pick: SAINTS +2.5 -110
The New Orleans Saints will take on the Baltimore Ravens in a battle of the leagues best defense and one of the leagues best offenses. The Saints lost their opening game against the Bucs but have been perfect ever since then winning their last 4 games. Their offense has looked unstoppable in their last 3 games scored 39.7 points per game over that span. Their defense has really turned around after a slow start as well. They have allowed less than 20 points in each of the last two games. The Ravens defense is very good but I believe the Saints have too many weapons for the Ravens to shut the down effectively. The Saints had a bye week to prepare for this game so expect them to be well prepared and they just got Mark Ingram back last game. The Saints should win this game.
COWBOYS vs REDSKINS
Pick: REDSKINS +1.5 -110
The Washington Redskins will take on a he Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field. The Cowboys have had a bit of a weird season. They are a perfect 3-0 at home but on the road they have not managed a win and are 0-3. In those 3 road games they have failed to score more than 16 point once. Washington have won their last two home games after losing their first to the Colts in week 2 with those wins coming over impressive opponents in the Panthers and Packers. The Cowboys are also being overvalued in this game due to their big win over the Jaguars last week. Expect them to come back down to earth in this one. Take the Redskins at very good value.
CHIEFS vs BENGALS
Pick: CHIEFS TT OVER 31.5 POINTS -110
The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday Night Football. The Chiefs have an electric offense. Led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes the Chiefs are averaging 35.8 points and 418.5 yards per game this season. They have also scored over the 31.5 point total in 4 of their 6 games this season. Today the Chiefs should be licking their lips as they get to face one of the worst defenses in the NFL. The Bengals are giving up 409.2 yards per game this season which puts them 29th in the league. They will also be without leading tackler Nick Vigil and cornerback Darqueze Dennard in this matchup. Mahomes has an array of weapons to throw to in this game such as Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Back them to score over 31.5 points tonight.
