NORTHWESTERN vs PURDUE ANALYSIS
Northwestern will open their 2018-2019 season up on the road at Purdue. This will also mark our first play of the College Football season. I believe Purdue is going to be in trouble in this one. This is a matchup that the Wildcats have dominated in recent seasons. They have won 4 straight games between these two teams and have not lost to Purdue since all the way back in 2010. Three of those wins in recent years have been by double digits or more including last years 23-13 home victory.
Northwestern looked like a team on a mission at the end of last season after starting the year 2-3 the Wildcats rallied for 8 straight wins to end the season including a win over Kentucky in the Music City Bowl. After leading rusher Justin Jackson to the NFL the Wildcats are led by star QB Clayton Thorson. Thorson is expected to be taken in the first couple rounds in the upcoming NFL draft. He has a lot to prove this season as he is coming off offseason ACL surgery. The fact that this is his first game since coming off a major surgery here will scare some people off Northwestern here and is no doubt affecting the line. However, all reports out of Northwestern are that Thorson has looked great taking first team reps with some people even going as far as saying it does not look like he even had surgery.
If Thorson can play up to the level that he is expected to in this game he should be able to light up a very inexperienced Purdue defense. I expect Northwestern to pick up their 5th straight head to head win between these two teams. They really should be the favorites in this game despite being away from home. Back the Wildcats +1.5
