ROCKIES vs PADRES *BEST BET*ANALYSIS
The Colorado Rockies host the San Diego Padres at Coors Field in the rubber match of this series. The Rockies are in a dominant stretch. They have won 9 of their last 11 games and have seen a lot of lower scoring games in this run. Today’s game for them will be very big as they have a chance to catch the Milwaukee Brewers for the 2nd wild card spot and put themselves just 1 game back in the NL West. The Padres, on the other hand, have lost 7 of their last 9 games and sit way outside of a playoff position. Like usual this season have struggled to score runs over this stretch.
Kyle Freeland starts for the Rockies and Rockies fans should be thrilled with his performance this season. He is 11-7 with a 2.96 ERA overall and is even more dominant in front of his home fans. In his last 6 home starts, Freeland has only given up 7 runs across 38.1 innings. I don’t see him having any problems what so ever. The Padres are one of the worst hitting teams in baseball only ranking 26th in runs scored and last in batting average. They have only scored 6 runs in 2 games this series and face their toughest task yet in Freeland.
Joey Lucchesi starts for the Padres. He is having a good season despite playing for a bad team. He is 6-7 with a 3.79 ERA and has put together a string of strong road starts. He has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his last 4 starts away from home. He faces a Rockies team that I expected to have a better offense this season. They average 4.7 runs per game which is an inflated number due to them playing at Coors Field. The Rockies clearly have not performed as bookmakers thought they would offensively this year as they have seen 36 of their 58 home games go under the total.
This has all the makings of a well-pitched game for both teams. The Padres should struggle to get anything going against Kyle Freeland while Joey Lucchesi should be able to limit what the Rockies are able to do offensively. Back then under.
