PADRES vs BREWERS BEST MLB BET BASEBALL TIP: August 09, 2018
BREWERS ML -165
The San Diego Padres take on the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park in Milwaukee tomorrow. This is a massive game for the Milwaukee Brewers. They have a 66-51 record. That has them currently sitting in the first wildcard spot by just 1.5 games with the Braves, D Backs, Rockies, Cards and Pirates all within striking distance. The Brewers are also chacing down an NL Central title. They are just 1.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs. While every game down the stretch is crucial for the Brewers the Padres have nothing to play for. They are 19.5 games out of a wildcard spot with a 45-71 record. I imagine they will be willing to try new things and give young players chances. The organization is at the stage in their season where it is more important to develop and focus on their future then to push for wins this season. Robbie Erlin starts for San Diego tomorrow. He is 2-3 with a 3.34 ERA through 64.2 innings. He has pitched well lately but that could change when facing a red hot Brewers offense that has scored at least 5 runs in 12 of their last 17 games. The Brewers have also played very well in front of their home crowd going 36-23 at home this year. Erlin will be in for a challenge. Junior Guerra starts for Milwaukee. He has a 6-7 record with a 3.42 ERA this year. Guerra is not pitching great right now. He has given up 18 runs over his last 22 innings of work but I have reason to believe we are going to be in for a very good performance from him in this one. While Guerra has not been great overall he has been fantastic at home lately. He has only allowed 12 earned runs in his last 9 starts (53.1 innings pitched) at Miller Park. Guerra also gets to face one of the MLB’s worst offenses. The Padres rank 27th in the Majors only averaging 3.8 runs per game. This is a massive game for the Brewers. I expect them to take it to a Padres team that is only 25-35 on the road and win comfortably.
